本片現在最重要的一點，就是它有20年前的「蟻人」。







《獨領風騷》上映至今已經20年了，我到現在還是覺得本片是很好看的經典YA (young adult)片。它最妙的一點是，在正常狀況下，我沒有任何道理能忍耐劇中主角。《獨領風騷》的主角Cher膚淺幼稚，成天只會購物打扮，不知人間疾苦，對現實的認識太過低落，遇到問題也不想認真解決、只想著靠一張嘴混過關，自己已經如此糟糕竟還老想著改造別人。天哪，如此糟糕又白痴的高中女孩，我怎麼可能不唾棄她？但妙的是，即使我一開始受不了她，編劇卻讓我看到Cher許多不同面向，讓我包容這天真女孩的種種缺點，到最後連她的口頭禪"As if!"都沒那麼令人想摀耳朵了。



本片是編劇兼導演Amy Heckerling根據珍奧斯汀的小說「艾瑪」改編，Cher（艾莉西亞席薇史東）是個富家女高中生，每天購物打扮之餘，還發揮善心改造一位醜巴巴的轉學生Tai（已逝的布蘭妮墨菲），希望她能變得時尚流行、找到白馬王子。同時，Cher的繼兄Josh（保羅路德，Paul Rudd）借住她家，一開始很受不了這位書呆子的Cher，在朝夕相處後漸漸改觀...







《獨領風騷》批判「膚淺」，但沒有把它戴上手銬痛打一頓，而是將焦點擺在只要有善良的心，膚淺的人也有傻氣可愛的一面，更重要的是，他們有可能改變。Cher雖然膚淺（這跟她生長背景也有很大關係），但她一直在思考如何做好事，以及學習「做好事」真正的意思。





這其實挺符合珍奧斯汀的精神。如果熟讀她所有作品，一定會注意到她很喜歡（優雅地）嘲諷人，即使是故事的主人翁也不放過，但是她並不恨這些人，她愛他們的優點與缺點，或至少能理解包容。艾瑪傻呼呼地又愛亂幫忙，《理性與感性》的姐妹一個理智過頭一個感性過頭其實都有些可笑，伊莉莎白班奈特的媽媽老愛念孩子快點結婚但小說中不斷提到的經濟壓力與社會階級讓人體會媽媽的擔憂也有道理，透過伊莉莎白之口讀者看到了負心小人韋漢的無奈之處，《諾桑覺寺》的Catherine腦袋充滿離譜誇張的幻想但珍奧斯汀讓她深刻自我反省後還是給她一個幸福...以這點來看，Heckerling創造出Cher與她的白痴朋友們，用各種離譜事件來嘲諷她們，還能讓觀眾願意站在這些人這邊，其實很符合兩百年前的珍奧斯汀精神呢！我想《獨領風騷》做為《艾瑪》的現代版傳人是挺有資格的。



當然，主角艾莉西亞席薇史東的真誠演出是成功關鍵，除了旁白聲線俏皮活潑，她的表情動作也很誠懇，即使角色Cher膚淺又少根筋，但她的演出超越了這個角色隱含的「自我中心的bitch」的刻板印象，成為讓人很有可能喜歡的蠢角色。





Cher的老爸（Dan Hedaya飾演）乍看之下是個現實、不假情面的律師，但他並沒有被簡化成一個不懂女兒心事、忙碌無法顧家的傳統事業有成的老爸，事實上他很懂女兒是怎回事，很了解並關心她，我覺得這樣的安排很棒。

布蘭妮墨菲也很搶眼，她對Cher發狠說出"You're a virgin who can't drive."那句時的表情與嘴型讓我一輩子記得。



保羅路德(Paul Rudd)的角色其實沒有其他的那麼有趣，但這是他演員生涯中很重要的演出，讓很多人開始認識他，至少我就是這樣認識這名演員的。現在回頭看二十年前他的萌樣，又有很多感慨哪！



還有一定要特別提一下，片中的衣服都好好看。





編導Amy Heckerling也是1982年《開放的美國學府》(Fast Times at Ridgemont High)的導演（那部的編劇是《成名在望》的Cameron Crowe）。《開放的美國學府》亦是經典作品，並讓大家認識了西恩潘，我相當建議影迷朋友們去找來看，非常妙的一部片。

Well it's like when I had this garden party for my father's birthday, right? I put R.S.V.P. 'cause it was a sit-down dinner. But some people came that like did not R.S.V.P. I was like totally buggin'. I had to haul ass to the kitchen, redistribute the food, and squish in extra place settings. But by the end of the day it was, like, the more the merrier. And so if the government could just get to the kitchen, rearrange some things, we could certainly party with the Haitians. And in conclusion may I please remind you it does not say R.S.V.P. on the Statue of Liberty. Thank you very much.

Josh: Do you have any idea what you're talking about?

Cher: No. Why, does it sound like I do?

Cher: Would you call me selfish?

Dionne: No, not to your face.

Mel: You mean to tell me that you argued your way from a C+ to an A-?

Cher: Totally based on my powers of persuasion, you proud?

Mel: Honey, I couldn't be happier than if they were based on real grades.

Josh: Look, I'm just curious. How many hours a day do you spend grooming yourself?

Cher: Some people are not lucky enough to be as naturally adorable as you are.

Cher: This is where Dionne lives. She's my friend because we both know what it's like for people to be jealous of us.

Cher: I love him.

Cher: You can't be the absolute and final word on drivers' licenses?

DMV Tester: Girlie, as far as you're concerned, I am the messiah of the DMV.

Mel: Why? You want to have a miserable, frustrating life?

Cher: Oh, Josh will have that no matter what he does.

Mel: At least he knows what he's doing. And he's in a good college. I'd like to see you have a little bit of direction.

Cher: I have direction.

Josh: Yeah, towards the mall.
