當我注意到自己開始買年紀比我小的藝人專輯時，感覺相當沉重，好像自己已經風燭殘年。由於心情低落，於是拿出Low聽，聽了一陣子發現這樣下去不行，待會不是撞牆就是跳樓，於是又聽回NickelBack, Linkin Park之類的「搖滾芭樂」振奮自己。

然後，我拿出了老ㄎㄡㄎㄡ專輯: Queensryche的Operation: Mindcrime。

這是1988年出的專輯，我在高中時代(1994-1997)聽的時候，還覺得那風格非常前衛開放，那些無政府主義、那些反對被洗腦的呼喊、對當代的批判、以及對人類的一種悲天憫人，都讓當時的我覺得耳目一新(當時才剛從國中的滾石音樂及Mariah Carey時代跳脫)。

事實上，這張專輯的確是progressive rock的代表作，這是少見的概念性專輯，整張專輯就是一個完整的故事與意念，並且對時事與時政多所批判與針砭，其地位無可挑戰。

多年後重聽，我還是喜歡那些旋律，但是像：
"i used to trust the media to tell me the truth. but now i've seen the payoffs everywhere i look. who do you trust when everyone's a crook?"
"i'm tired of all this bullshit they keep selling me on tv about the communist plan. and all the shady preachers begging for my cash. swiss bank accounts while giving their secretaries the slam. they're all in penthouse now or playboy magazine. million doller stories to tell..."
等等句子，現在看來都很平凡，因為已經被述說了千百遍，本身就成了另一種洗腦，另一種「主流的另類價值觀」，因此沒辦法讓我有另一次感動。

那個熱血的年代已經過了，我老了，老氣橫秋。
